The training takes place on the basis of the law of Nordrhein-Westfalen for the implementation of the law for training in geriatric care of 27.06.2006 in the state approved Fachseminar für Altenpflege of DRK Schwesternschaft „Bonn" e.V. with branches in Bergisch Gladbach, Euskirchen and Cologne. Training Objectives
The training as a nursing assistant aims to impart the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled nursing and care for older people in stable nursing situations under the supervision of a geriatric nurse.
Admission
- 16 years of age
- Health and personal fitness to perform a professional activity in the geriatric care
- Either successful completion of grade 10 secondary school
or completion of grade 9 secondary school and a successfully completed at least two years professional education
or an equivalent education
or the suitability on the basis of a very successful participation in at least two blocks of
two or three month of the "nordrhein-westfälischen Werkstattjahres" in the field of geriatric care - If a certificate has not been aquired at a German school, it is essential to prove the level of German language skills
Duration of training
The training lasts 12 month full time. The first three month as a probationary.
Course of training
750 hours of theoretical and practical lessons in the seminar (Fachseminar für Altenpflege).
900 hours practical training in inpatient and outpatient care facilities. It is divided into four practical assignments. For each set of work experience a minimum of 200 hours training is required.
Two assignments take place in a home or impatient care facility. Two more in a ambulatory care facility.
The facility implemented in the practical training will provide practical guidance from trained instructors in practice on the basis of a training plan.
Phases of the theoretical instruction and practical training alternate with each other and are based on the learning field concept.
1. Content of the theoretical and practical training (according to the legal basis)
- Tasks and concepts in care for the elderly
- Involving theoretical foundations in the summary actions of care for the elderly
- To perform and document care for older people in stable nursing situations
- Supervised care for elderly people in stable nursing situations, guidance, advice and discussions
2. Support of older people in their development of life skills
- Taking into consideration their need for social interactions and networking
- Support of older people in the daily design and the daily activities
3. Consideration of the legal and institutional conditions in the geriatric care
4. Nursing as a profession
- Professional self-image
- Dealing with crisis and difficult social situations
- Preserve and promote their own health
Content of practical training
1. Acquainted with the practice taking into account in the institutional and legal frameworks and technical approaches
2. Volunteering in the comprehensive plan of care under guidance
3. Self-implementing of home economic activities and acquisition of independent subtasks in the care of older people in stable nursing situations.
Contracting and financing of training
The Fachseminar für Altenpflege Bonn signs cooperation agreement with the entities in which the trainees complete their practical training and also a training contract with the trainees.
Financing may be available through the employment agency (Programm WeGebAu) or through students loans (Bafög) or Landesförderung.
